For a folk tale in dynamic typography By Saaib Zafar.

Here depicted are a few screen-shot of a Tamil folklore ‘Outwitting fate’ (project done in a movie form).

I believe this is a simple, superbly crafted and brilliant typo tale!

I haven’t come across such an exciting combination before!

Kavad – a story of Shravankumar

Young Indian designer Neha Chandra carefully studied the work of Picasso and picked up basic curves and surfaces in his work and then came up with this beautiful art-y salt and pepper.

There are endless possibilities of designs as you can put pepper shaker in the salt shaker in different ways making a new art piece each time!

I am so tempted to put the title of this post in Hindi – borrowing from an old Hindi song:

Champa – Chameli muskaye {meaning: Champa and Chameli (both are flowering plants) are smiling.} I am not doing that. But let me warn you I am emotional at the moment!

These home-furnishing products are designed by two very talented young designers (NID ians + MS University @ Vadodara-ites) Sheila Nambiar and Shruti Phagre-Mahajan.

Brand new in the market they do not fail to entice you with a very thoughtful and ‘full of memories’ collection.

A lot of India – things Indian, memories of bygone era, Indian native plants have got expressed in their collections! Indian tradition is at rework here.

Though very Indian in theme and colours yet collections has absolutely minimalist and contemporary feel.

Chaupad – lets play- anybody game!

The ancient dice game of India inspires this rich blue Mangalgiri runner embroidered with Kantha.

If you know how to, you can actually play chaupad on it with cowries and gotis.

Pipal - ….. a little bit of choking here! I have played around a peepal tree, had enjoyed swings on it and even tried very scientifically to collect the natural peepal gum!

Considered sacred for both Hindus and Buddhists it’s a native tree of India.

Designer: Kedar Naik

Going to a party and you have nothing new to wear. Try this most inexpensive piece of jewellery and dazzle the crowd!

Paper jewellery – a very clever piece by Kedar Naik.

The neck piece gets lit when it is worn. Handmade paper stained with coffee. To accentuate the translucency and the texture of the paper small lights are inserted inside the cones.

Don’t go by the ‘just out of school’ innocent looks of this young Indian designer Kedar Naik; he has got quite a few very clever designs up his sleeves!

This snacks plate may be inspired by a palette but it is absolutely practical – to hold, carry a glass and eat!

A poetic expression of a droplet of water falling in water captured in a product cup – again a very functional double walled glass cup with air gap for insulation.

The work of Abraham & Thakore has been exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, in a British Council exhibition on contemporary Indian design; at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi, in the Volkart Foundation sponsored exhibition on Khadi that later traveled to Switzerland etc.
